Like Harley-Davidson, Indian Motorcycle played a massive role in the two-wheeled Allied war effort, most notably with its 30 cubic-inch (500cc) Model 741, of which approximately 32,000 were built between 1941 and ’43. Both companies were in dire straits during the Depression, but wartime motorcycle production, even before the U.S. entered the war, helped jumpstart their production and business fortunes. Many 741s went to England.
