I’m cruising the San Juans on county land

Versus the islands of the Pacific NW

The road is serene—a four corners desert scene

Soon I’ll pull off and take a brief rest

A rock formation of enormous scale

Is it a clipper ship from days gone by?

Or a mythical bird bringing the Navajo South

From the cold to this place, warm and dry

With dark closing in and an empty gut

I mount my Fat Boy with a mission

A bite to eat in a nearby town

Its name mirroring the rock I still envision
