We all like collecting motorcycle stuff, and riders with deep pockets threw down some big money for items offered from the movie industry at last weekend’s Heritage Auctions event, which sold iconic film props sourced from the Planet Hollywood restaurant franchise. Among them were the axe wielded by Jack Nicholson in The Shining, the bus stop bench from Forrest Gump, and the whip Harrison Ford carried in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
More important to us were the motorcycles and moto-related paraphernalia that gained notoriety in famous films, and some of them were sold relatively cheap considering the $15.6 million overall haul from the auction.
The Harley-Davidson FXR chopper ridden by Bruce Willis in Quentin Tarantino’s landmark 1994 movie, Pulp Fiction, was up for auction. If you recall, Willis’ character Butch Coolidge motored on screen aboard the bike he called “Grace” and uttered the famous line, “Zed’s dead.” It gaveled at $50,000, which seems to us like a pretty good deal.
Even more iconic is the leather jacket worn by Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2: Judgment Day. It was seen in the famous scene in which Schwarzenegger was trying to outrun a Terminator along the L.A. river on a Kawasaki police bike. A bid of $52,500 took it home.
For less money, you could’ve bought the Hero Lawmaster motorcycle from the 1995 film, Judge Dredd, which was ridden by Sylvester Stallone. It sold for a relatively paltry $13,750.
It may be true that Zed’s dead, but the market for Hollywood collectibles definitely isn’t!
