Iconic event slated to return to Bonneville Speedway

Pickerington, Ohio—The AMA Land Speed Grand Championship returns to the Bonneville Speedway near Wendover, Utah, on Aug. 25-30, offering ambitious competitors a shot at setting world records and capturing AMA National No. 1 plates.

Also known as the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials, the event features both American and international amateur land speed racing competitors vying for Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme records. The AMA is the FIM National Federation for the United States.

“The AMA Land Speed Grand Championship is renowned for producing both exciting racing and new world records,” said AMA Track Racing Manager Ken Saillant. “We are looking forward to another great week of land speed competition in 2018.”

Land-speed racing is all about going faster than anyone has gone before over perfectly level terrain at the Bonneville Salt Flats. As with most AMA amateur national championships, and in recognition of the range of participants in amateur competition, the event includes multiple classes to provide ample opportunities for amateur racers to compete. Both displacement- and bike-configuration classes are featured, including high-powered custom-built streamliners made for the sole purpose of topping 300 mph.

The event is being organized and promoted by Deliciate Promotions. The Bonneville Speedway typically consists of a 5-mile course and an 8-mile course, depending on conditions.

“This is our 15th year operating the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials, and we are excited to get this year’s event underway,” said Deliciate Promotions President Delvene Reber. “We have been working hard over the past several months to improve procedures and recruit volunteers, and we are hopeful that conditions will allow us to run both tracks this year.”
