Sturgis, South Dakota—The Sturgis Buffalo Chip announced that the award-winning Student Build Challenge Legends Ride bike built by students at Sturgis Brown High School has won two more awards at the 25th annual Black Hills Motorcycle Show April 13-14at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City, South Dakota. Students who customized this bike took home first place in the Full Custom Bagger category and Best Paint Overall at the Black Hills Show. The one-of-a-kind motorcycle previously won first place for the Full Custom Bagger Open class and the award for Overall Best Display at the 26th annual Donnie Smith Show in St. Paul, Minnesota, May 23-24.
The students were guided by Keith Terry of Terry Components, Randy and Nick Cramer of Dakota V-Twin, and Instructors Chad Hedderman and Bill Johnson. Parts were donated by world-class contributors and, in a complete teardown and rebuild, the students customized a stock Road King that has now taken multiple top honors at two of the industry’s top motorcycle competitions.
The students and staff from Sturgis Brown High School began transforming the Harley- Davidson bike from a Road King to a Road Glide in January. With help from the many sponsors, students and staff worked tirelessly after school and on weekends, as well as over Christmas and Spring Break, to complete the bike, putting in well over 377 combined staff and student man-hours on the motorcycle.
