New AFT rules render FTR750 ineligible in 2025
Indian Motorcycle’s FTR750 has earned seven SuperTwins titles in American Flat Track competition since the bike’s late-2016 introduction. But a new AFT rules package for 2025 that mandates engines from production bikes will make the race-only FTR750 obsolete.
The Indian FTR750 established itself as one of the most dominant racebikes in the sport’s history, scoring 101 wins in 135 races and seven consecutive premier-class titles. With three races remaining in AFT’s 2024 season, the FTR750 has a 75%-win ratio and has filled 96% of the podium positions throughout its career.
The FTR has been hit with several regulations changes over the years to slow them down – 20 lb extra overall weight, tiny air restrictors in the fuel-injection ports, mandating a lighter (disadvantagous) rear wheel – but Indian’s purpose-built flat-tracker remains the bike to beat.
“The FTR750 was the vehicle that reestablished Indian Motorcycle Racing and returned the brand to a place of competitive dominance,” said Gary Gray, Vice President Racing and Service for Indian Motorcycle.
“We gave everything we could and more to AFT, our riders, our sponsors, and our fans, so we have nothing to regret,” Gray told us via text messages. “Fortunately for us, we have built an amazing series in King Of The Baggers and Super Hooligans, and both are rocketing upward just like AFT did when we arrived in 2016.”

Jared Mees has been a lynchpin in the FTR750’s development since before the bike made its competition debut, providing feedback and insights to Indian Motorcycle engineers and S&S Cycle, who developed the FTR750’s chassis.
“Racing the FTR750 has been an incredible experience, as I’ve never experienced a bike like the FTR750 in all my years competing,” said the nine-time SuperTwins champ. “We’ve had immense success over the past eight years, and it’s been a true honor to be a part of the Indian Wrecking Crew.”
Mees has secured five championship titles riding the FTR750, and he holds a 22-point lead in the 2024 SuperTwins standings after bagging a pair of wins at the Springfield double-header. The legendary rider is hoping to complete the FTR750’s perfect championship streak and secure a new all-time record of 10 career class championships after the Sept. 14 season finale at Lake Ozark Speedway, where he’ll need to earn just 3 points to secure his unprecedented 10th Grand National championship.

Since 2017, 45 riders have competed aboard FTR750s, and Indian Motorcycle has supported privateer teams, paying out more than $4,000,000 in contingency money.
It will be sad not to see FTR750s thundering on dirt-tracks in 2025. Commenters on social media are begging for an FTR750 street-tracker so that Indian can continue in AFT racing with a production engine.
We’d like to add our voices to that chorus, as no manufacturer has ever given us a streetbike worthy of a legit dirt-track racing heritage. AFT rules state that only 400 bikes would need to be produced to make it eligible…
Forgive my ignorance, but isn’t Harley racing a motor that is no longer available in a production motorcycle? Or are they homologating the XG750 in Poland now?
Please build those 400 street bikes and get back on the track! We don’t want to go back to the ‘TRANS Harley Days”!
As a proud owner of a 2019 S race replica FTR 1200 I was inspired by Jared Mees and all the other FTR aces on the AFT circuit to purchase one of these street legal race bikes and I am here to tell ya they are a blast to ride
I really hope for all of us Indian fans that they will develop a 750 “street tracker” very soon
So that Indian is back where it belongs and continues the rivalry with harley yamahama
ktm enfield or who ever thinks they can run with us If Johny Gray gets busy on it we all know what he has done and can do
I will buy the first one available at Blair motor sports Central Illinois Indian dealership
Lastly Congrats to Jared and his 10th championship He’s the most focused and best flat tracker I have ever seen period.
