June was a fun month—a mishmash of quirky weather in my neck of the woods. One day was 60 degrees with drizzle, the next a scorching 105. The month also brought some fun rides; I didn’t get to go on the Sheriff’s Ride, but everyone that did told me it was well organized and fun. I did get the great LOC Poker Run in and a nice lunch ride to Seven Oaks Lodge up on the way to Big Bear—thanks for that, Steve and Joan Taylor! Our waitress, Ann Dimass, was great, and it’s a very biker-friendly (and everyone else) place. The food was good, too!… It’s gotten a little tougher to hit all my rides now that I work every other Saturday, but there are plenty of bike nights to hit during the week so I’m still getting my summer riding fix in without making work my destination. If you do some searching, you can find one almost every night of the summer. On Monday nights, there’s one at The Hat, 1210 E. Imperial Highway, in Brea 7:00–9:00 p.m. Wednesdays check out the Starting Gate down in Los Alamitos at 5052 Katella Avenue. Look for food, drink specials and lots of raffle prizes from 6:00–9:00 p.m., plus some great tunes provided by the P51s. Sunday, check out the 601 Club at 601 S. Raymond in Fullerton, or the Gaslamp Restaurant at 6251 E. PCH in Long Beach from 1:00–6:00 p.m. Thursdays is Vintage Bike Night at the Knowlwood, 5665 E La Palma, Anaheim 6:00–9:00 p.m. See what I mean? That’s just a few; for lots more, check out the Thunder Press online calendar… I finally got around to stopping by a popular stop for lots of rides—Buckles & Belts out in Yucaipa at 1007 Calimesa Boulevard. Sue made us feel right at home. It’s a great place to stop by… Way back in December, I won a bowling ball at the PV H.O.G. ABATE 19 Toy Run. It sat in the garage until, finally, at the urging of both Halle at Valley V-Twin and my nephew Jim, I took it up to the place that donated it—Brunswick Zone in Upland. The pro shop’s Joe Staton of Custom Fit Bowling Supply traded it for a lighter ball of my choice with no questions asked. Jim drilled it for me and had it all ready for me within three days. I am now free to join the Valley V-Twin league. Apparently their league specializes in sucky bowling, so I plan on fitting right in. I look forward to learning from masters!… Howdy to my recent Midnight Auto & Truck Recycling customers, Tina and Jay Hollingsworth. Only Tina came in, but I told her I’d say hiya to hubby Jay!… My fellow auto wrecker and neighbor, Jeff Givens of Qwik Parts, along with a boatload of others, is putting on Courtney’s Ride on July 27. This event is being held at Skip Fordyce Harley-Davidson at 7688 Indiana Avenue in Riverside and is a fundraiser to help offset the huge medical bills accruing for Courtney Jones of AIP Racing. Back in February, Courtney was involved in a bike accident and she still has a long way to go to recovery. If you can help in any way, give Jeff a call at 909.208.0706 or shoot him an email at bohuffrockabilly66@msn.com. The ride looks like a great time; Inland Empire H.O.G. is hosting the barbecue, and there will be live music, tons of great cars and lots of hot motorcycles!… I have plenty of birthdays this July; Melissa Blaylock and Kelly Burns—have a fun day! Jan Valdez, Jana Gaudette and David Lasarte, hope your special day is filled with fun! Evelyn Leach of the CREW, hope you enjoy your July 18. Ms. Sharron Berry, LOC leader extraordinaire, have a fabulous July 7 birthday! Happy birthday to founding ABATE 19 and PV H.O.G. member Sam Peterson on July 2. Sandi Dubois, I hope your July 14 birthday is a special day and, while I’m at it, congrats on that fifth-place win at your recent body builders’ competition! I know you’ll blow ’em all away this July. Bill Balas, hope your July 15 birthday is super! Tammy Farber, haven’t seen you in way too long, honey—have a great July 16 birthday. Halle & George Fetty’s son Andrew Fetty turns 31 in July! Wowzers, Halle, you don’t look like you could have a 31-year-old son. And speaking of the desert, here are a few birthdays from the Low Desert area: George Humphrey, Mike Balloy, Danny Cota and Leanne Bonesteel, hope your July birthdays are fabulous! Lee and Jacqui Chandrasena celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary in July—hope it’s a wonderful one, you two! And George and Halle Fetty celebrate the 20th anniversary of their first date!… Every 4th of July, Tim Morrison and Jeff Bassler head a cast of hundreds—of motorcycles, that is. This 4th of July brings another dandy pre-ride of the La Verne 4th of July Parade, courtesy of Jeff and Tim and more than 150 of their closest friends. Once again they’ve organized the kickoff to the City of La Verne’s 4th parade. This is an RSVP event only, and space is limited. Please confirm that you are on the list with Tim before planning on including yourself in the ride by calling him at 909.596.4009. It may already be too late, but it is a sight to behold, so I recommend going even if you can’t be one of the selected few to ride in it… Lastly, I’d like to give a shout out to the folks at Biggs H-D in San Marcos. They’re one of 10 H-D dealerships in the U.S. celebrating 25 years of service in 2013. Congrats! That’s it for me this month. Enjoy your 4th celebrations; I always do! As always, send me your stuff! You know what I want—keep sending me your biker-friendly locales and good-to-deal-with folk. See you all next month; enjoy your ride!
