My riding for the early weeks of October were cut short as I had to be in Los Angeles for a couple weeks but I did manage to find a couple of cool biker-friendly watering holes south of L.A. The Swallows Inn near Capistrano was a great little place with good prices and fun people. Down the road a little way, Cook’s Corner in Trabuco Canyon had plenty of bikes still around late on a Sunday afternoon with two bars, vendors and nice outdoor seating. If you’re out that way in your travels, stop in… Back home in Florida there was no shortage of things to do either. Orlando Harley has a bike night on Friday nights and on September 22 they hosted the Triple D Stunt Show to bring smiles to the audience. There were also adult beverages and a food truck serving up Brazilian skewers. The next day the Orlando H.O.G. group hosted a Paws & Claws Poker Run at the Historic Factory location supporting a local animal shelter, Franklin’s Friends… On the 30th, Fire & Iron MC Station 15 hosted their 12th annual Beach Poker Run with 100 percent of the proceeds going to support the Children’s Burn Foundation. The ride was in honor of Tony Feminella, Sal Laporte and Rick Mageluzzo. Registration took place at Biff Burger in St. Pete, then riders were off to O’ Maddy’s, Undertow Beach Bar (great little place), Caddy’s on the Beach and finally Bert’s on the Beach. The winning hand took home a cool $300 while the worst hand received $50… By the middle of October things were ramping up and getting ready for 25th anniversary of Biketoberfest in Daytona. On the 15th, Main Street Station was the site of the Battle of Babes with proceeds going to a local breast cancer facility. With a poker run starting and ending at the Station, food vendors and 20 bands performing on the three stages there was no lack of fun for the afternoon… On the west coast in New Port Richey the Cotee River Bikefest was going on from the 13th–15th. The band Straight Jacket Smile got things going on Friday evening. Stormbringer, 53 Hooligans and Jasmine Cain took the stage all day on Saturday. And on Sunday, Den of Thieves wrapped up the weekend. There was also a bikini bike show, ACW wrestling, a sound competition and a Ride Like a Pro demonstration… On the 14th Seminole Harley in Sanford hosted the 2nd annual Breast Cancer Outreach Benefit with a fashion show highlighting the new H-D Pink Label Line for 2018. Participants were treated to a champagne toast, hors d’oeuvres and cake with a $35 purchase of a VIP ticket. And for every purchase in the MotorClothes department over $25, Seminole H-D donated $5 to the cause… On the 14th, the hottest guys from the Fallen Few club got down and dirty while cleaning bikes at Gator Harley in Leesburg in support of the upcoming benefit for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital on November 18. And the gals from the Amazons WMC weren’t going to be outdone so they took the bucket and sponge brigade to the x in Eustis on the 15th to raise more funds for the St Jude’s event… That’s about all the news from Florida for now.
