The words Harley-Davidson and Customization go together about as well as Eric Clapton and Fender Stratocasters, so it’s no surprise to see the Motor Company once again getting behind its Battle of the Kings custom-Harley contest, this year as part of a world-wide competition.
Here’s what going on: Harley-Davidson dealers from around the world—including more than 40 from the U.S.—have built one-of-a-kind custom bikes that’ll compete in a head-to-head battle for the title of World Champion. And the motorcycling public gets to vote.
U.S. dealers have partnered with local trade-school students from across the country to build something unique. Dealers from across the nation have created custom models in three categories—dirt, track or chop—using Harley-Davidson parts and accessories, with a budget no bigger than half the cost of the original model.
And now it’s time to vote, but only for a limited time—from April 15 to May 15, 2019—and you can only vote once per bike. The journey doesn’t stop there as the winners of the public vote will go on to compete in front of a panel of H-D judges, narrowing down to three category winners. The trio will then be voted on by Harley-Davidson dealers during this year’s Annual Dealer Meeting in Milwaukee. The U.S. champion will then travel to Italy to compete for the World Champion title at the annual EICMA Show in November.
