I lose gloves. I don’t feel as badly when a pair comes up missing because I naively assume some lucky soul has found both of them. More often than not, I’m simply left with a spare glove—right or left, what does it matter?—that is rendered completely useless for anything other than kitchen duty as an oven mitt. Now this hurts when a pair of good riding gloves can cost more than a hundred bucks.
I had a nice pair of Duluth Trading Company’s Yellowknife Winter Gloves, but needed to replace them with some riding gloves for chilly fall and spring riding. I ended up with a pair of Duluth Winter Work Gloves.
For less than $35 I have a comfortable pair of windproof/waterproof gloves with compact insulation. The palms and inside of the fingers and thumb are lined with anti-slip synthetic leather and Duraclad (PVC rubber-coated fabric) reinforcements. The synthetic leather wraps over the tips of the fingers, which is a very smart design feature. The gloves are comfortable, flexible and warm. The neoprene cuff has a Velcro tab closure.
I like riding gloves that keep my hands warm and dry. I like gloves that aren’t bulky and don’t slip. While I don’t intend to lose this pair, I like gloves that, when they come up missing, it doesn’t feel as if I’ve lost my wallet. Besides, when I’m not riding I can use them when doing contracting work.
Winter Work Gloves are sized for a snug fit, so if you want a bit more room order a size larger than you normally wear.
