Youth classes added to road racing program
Pickerington, Ohio, May 1—Motorcycle enthusiasts and racers will experience three days of action-packed motorcycle competition during the 2018 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days on July 6-8 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
Vintage and post-vintage competition will be held in hare scrambles, motocross, trials, flat track and road racing.
“The AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days racing program celebrates motorcycling’s competitive heritage,” said AMA Director of Racing Kevin Crowther. “Our program provides an opportunity for vintage motorcycle enthusiasts to enter their vintage machines in a variety of racing disciplines, as well as opportunities for youth to experience motorcycling history in a fun, family-oriented environment. So, drag that old dirt bike out of your garage, buy one off the Internet or even hit up the swap meet at the event. Line up and race, and regardless of where you finish, you’ll no doubt make memories that will last a lifetime.”
Class winners in the trials, hare scramble, motocross and road racing disciplines will be recognized and AMA National Champions will receive a highly-coveted AMA National No. 1 plate. The flat track race, which is set to take place at the Ashland County Fairgrounds, is the sixth round of the AMA Vintage Flat Track Series.
In addition, two outstanding riders will earn the AMA Off-Road Vintage Grand Championship and the AMA Senior Off-Road Vintage Grand Championship for excelling in expert-level eligible classes.
Other updates to the racing program at this year’s AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days include the addition of youth classes to the road racing events.
AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days will see the return of pit bike racing and the holeshot challenge competition. Pit bike racing is scheduled for July 6-7, while the holeshot challenge rounds out the day’s racing action on July 7.
