Coming right on the heels of Harley-Davidson’s new CVO line announcement, the MoCo has also announced a new addition to its Icons Motorcycle Collection. For 2023, Harley-Davidson will be offering the limited-edition Electra Glide Highway King, a nostalgic model based on the 1968 FLH Electra Glide.

The Highway King comes with a windshield, hard-shell saddlebags, whitewall tires, and plenty of chrome.

The Highway King will be the third installment in Harley’s annual Icons program. The program started in 2021 with a 1969-inspired Electra Glide Revival and continued in 2022 with the 1980s-inspired Low Rider El Diablo. Each model in the collection features unique paintwork and other details that honor popular past models. The Highway King will be limited to only 1,750 units built worldwide.

The 1968 FLH Electra Glide was available with the “King of the Highway” accessories group, which is where the 2023 Icons Highway King gets its name. The 1968 package included fiberglass saddlebags, a windshield, a luggage rack, and engine guards. The 2023 Highway King includes those accessories along with the convenience of current rider aides and other modern features.

The 2023 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Highway King draws inspiration from the top-selling 1968 FLH Electra Glide and comes in Hi-Fi Magenta and Hi-Fi Orange.

“In its day, this was a really deluxe motorcycle,” said Brad Richards, Harley-Davidson Vice President of Design and Creative Director. “The colors we’ve selected for the Highway King model are reminiscent of the original color options offered in 1968. We carefully matched each color in the lower section of the windshield. In 1968, the accessory fiberglass saddlebags were only offered in white, so we’ve done the same in 2023. The result is a thoroughly modern motorcycle that looks unapologetically old school.”

The two color options available for the Highway King are Hi-Fi Orange (1,000 units) and Hi-Fi Magenta (750 units). The hard-shell saddlebags are finished in Birch White, and the Black Denim panel on the fuel tank has a Birch White accent stripe around it. The tank badge used is also reminiscent of the badge used in 1968. The Highway King will come with a serialization badge etched into the console insert.

Other details include a windshield with a tinted lower section color-matched to the paint color and chrome steel laced wheels and wide whitewall tires. The solo saddle is suspended by a coil spring and shock absorber and is finished with a black-and-white cover and a chrome rail. Chrome is also found on the front fender rails and saddlebag rails, front fender skirt, and ventilator air cleaner cover.

The Highway King is built on a Harley-Davidson Touring frame using a 49mm fork with dual bending valve technology and rear shocks with hydraulic preload adjustability.

Power comes from a Milwaukee-Eight 114 V-Twin. It comes standard with electronic cruise control, a halogen headlamp and auxiliary lamps, Reflex linked Brembo brakes, and rider aides including Cornering Enhanced Anti-Lock Brake System, Cornering Enhanced Electronic Linked Braking, Cornering Enhanced Traction Control System, Cornering Drag-torque Slip Control System, and Vehicle Hold Control. The M-8 engine also accepts Screamin’ Eagle Stage Upgrade kits.

The 2023 Electra Glide Highway King will be available starting at $26,999. Visit Harley-Davidson’s website for more information.
