The infamous Sturgis Rally gets a novel new addition with the introduction of the Sturgis TT that will take place in downtown Sturgis, South Dakota, on August 11. Also new will be the debut of AFT’s AdventureTracker class for big adventure bikes.
Racing On Sturgis Streets and AFT AdventureTrackers Class
The course consists mostly of paved sections, including a blast down Main Street, but it also includes a dirt section with a right turn and a jump, as is befitting for a TT track. Previous Progressive American Flat Track events were also held on asphalt/dirt courses, including the Daytona TT and the Atlanta Super TT.
The track starts and ends on Main Street near Harley-Davidson Rally Point. The course makes a lefthand turn onto 3rd Street and then another left on Sherman. The track gets more interesting with a lefthand turn onto the dirt section, followed quickly with a righthander and a jump before exiting the dirt and joining 2nd Street, aka Harley-Davidson Way. Then it’s another left turn onto Main Street and the finish line.
The circuit is merely a quarter mile in length, so we’re bound to see plenty of bar-banging action, which rallygoers can spectate for free. The Sturgis TT will feature a backdrop and atmosphere that couldn’t be replicated anywhere else.
“This layout lives up to the event’s stated intent to honor the rich heritage and tradition of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and Progressive American Flat Track while producing a modern-day spectacle that points to the future of both,” AFT said in a press release.

The Sturgis TT will take place only five days after the Black Hills Half-Mile AFT round in Rapid City, South Dakota, which gives rallygoers two chances to be thrilled by AFT’s flat-track and TT action.
AFT says the Sturgis TT has garnered significant advance interest, which has resulted in getting a prime television slot on FOX that will be aired on Saturday, August 17 at 2 p.m. ET. It will be the first time that AFT racing will air on a major broadcast network.
