Setting off on August 9, Rusty Vaughn of Grass VAlley, California, rode his Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Limited a distance of 2010 miles in 24 hours at the Continental Tires test track in Uvalde, Texas. The previous record of 1,281 miles was held by an Omani, Omar Ali Mamari.
Vaughn had ridden in last year’s chaotic Hoka Hey Challenge, but opted out this year, telling Grass Valley’s The Union newspaper, “I’m not really ready to die.”
He remained afflicted by the long-distance riding bug, however, and decided instead to have a go at the Guinness mark and ended up surpassing it by a whopping 769 miles–at an average speed of nearly 84 mph.
Way to go, Rusty. We’re in awe.
