Bayview, Idaho, is alongside Lake Pend Oreille; the deepest, biggest and least noisy body of water statewide. This makes for the ideal location for research and development on stealth technologies for the US Navy’s submarines, doing this work much more affordably and with greater environmental controls than would be possible in an ocean setting. Bayview, Idaho, is also where a lunch stop and 50/50 raffle will be held on Saturday, April 22 for those participating in the Second annual Spring Ride. The ride organizers and hosts, Kindred Spirits Against Diabetes (KSAD) (of Liberty Lake, Washington) have planned their starting location to be with the Bearded Ones at M6 Cycles at 6548 West Seltice Way in Post Falls, Idaho (T: 208.262.3865). There, riders will register ($5) beginning at 10 a.m. then head out at 11:00 for a beautiful ride in N. Idaho, lunch in Bayview and a day enjoying the Idaho Panhandle in spring. Ride organizers suggest dressing in many layers and that’s some good advice for April in the Inland Northwest. Event proceeds will go to the American Diabetes Association. For you closet social media jockeys there’s also a Facebook page providing opportunity to connect with riders who may be planning on attending… 360-miles west by northwest of Post Falls, on the very same day, Mount Vernon’s Skagit County Fairgrounds will be site for the Washington Vintage Motorcyclists Club Swap Meet and Vintage Motorcycle Show. Antique steel ponies will be everywhere, and the featured motorcycle show marquee is vintage Harley-Davidson. This enthusiast group is one that splintered off from the Seattle area Vintage Motorcycle Enthusiasts group about 14 years ago and the WVMC has been steadily growing since. The event is open to the public from 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. for $2 a head and parking is $5 for a cage. There’s a bike auction at 11:00 a.m. that would be fun to watch and even more fun to snag the CB 125S or GL500 Silver Wing on the block. Admittance is actually more of a bargain than you’d guess because at the same hour on the same day, at the same venue is the North Cascade Street Rod Association’s Mount Vernon Automotive Swap Meet, essentially filling the complex. I can smell the grime already, can’t you? More info is available on the WVMC website at www.washingtonvintagemotorcyclistsclub.org or by phoning Mark at 360.223.3190 The Skagit Fairgrounds are easy to find. Exit I-5 at Anderson Road and follow the signs… On Sunday, April 23, from 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., held just one day after the WVMC event in Mount Vernon, Washington, a Canadian motorcycle event that used to be called the Tsawwassen Motorcycle Swap Meet is now the Classic Bike Swap Meet and it’s held in the Agriplex in Cloverdale, British Columbia, Canada. This event has only grown bigger and better for its tenure. Do you need a non-aftermarket mirror for your Trident, a clutch cable for your Commando, the correct seat for your Hydra Glide, tank emblem or vintage bags for your project? This is a large—OK, huge swap meet in its 31st year, with a following disinclined to balk at driving 500 miles one way to get that oddball original part difficult to find anywhere else. For the roughly 100 vendor booths and countless bikes of every flavor, admission is $10 a head. But it’s a treat to go. Seeing as it’s being held at the California Avenue location this year too, it’s fair to say it went well and the event has a new home for their 19th year (or is it the 20th) hosting this premier event. ABATE of Southern Oregon—Josephine County’s finest—truly know how to live locally and care for their own community by way of fundraisers. I admire that spirit of community. This year’s event will be on Saturday April 29 from 9:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. and on Sunday April 30 from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. You can buy either a $5 one or $8 two-day pass and youngsters (under 12) are free. Pat will take your questions at 541.659.8715 or by e-mail using freeflitterfly@msn.com. The event flyer boasts new and used parts, leather and accessories, food, music and beer garden and a free bike show Saturday 12:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m. with bike show registration at 10:00 a.m.
