Chris Cody and his father Steve of Spokane, Washington, have been collaborating in bringing eastern Washington State and the state of Idaho a “wonder-full” annual winter shindig for riders over the past 10 years. The 11th annual Inland Northwest Motorcycle Show and Sale is just a few weeks away so mark your calendar for March 14–16 where, for three days, almost 10,000 of the winter-hearty are anticipated to travel to the fairgrounds in Spokane, Washington. This event has upwards of 80,000 square feet of comfortable strolling space among the vendors, demos and displays, plus free parking for attendees. There’s something for every age and interest, including a bike-off competition that’s been expanded from 20 to an enormous 45 entries this year. The Codys also are aware that female riders represent a growing segment of the market, so the event will see to it that none of the fairer sex will be compelled to yawn. Not that we’d ever admit yawning. No, there won’t be a broadcast of Downton Abbey, but expect the Cody boys to have something in mind. There will be games for the kids, demonstrations for all, snacks, beverages and opportunities to see all the latest innovations in the industry. For those who bite the big bullet and purchase a motorcycle during the event, there’s a game show-like booth, the S-R Media/Spokesman-Review Cash Machine, and the buyer is given 30 seconds to grab greenbacks. Oh, the excitement of it all. And as always, the INWMS is an opportunity to bump into friends (Terry, are you going?). Admission is $10, and cash only, thanks. Kids 5 and under are free, and ages 6 to 12 will be admitted for $5. The show starts Friday, March 14, for evening hours 3:00–8:00 p.m., reopening at 10:00 a.m. Saturday (until 8:00 p.m.) and Sunday hours will be 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. More info online at www.spokanemotorccleshow.com, by e-mail at info@spokanemotorcycleshow.com or telephone the father-son duo at 509.466.4256. We’ll see you there… Sas Alford of Cashmere, Washington, took a little trip south of the border with beau Bruce over New Year, celebrating with Ken and Lois Acheson of Gold Bar. What, aside from the calendar jump from ’13 to ’14, were they celebrating? Lois’s birthday on New Year’s Eve, and the old-ometer turning 70 for Sas. Can you believe it, Sas? Bruce arrived back home with a bug that found him hospitalized for a couple days, but Sas let her e-circle know when the lad’s appetite returned. All’s well that “blends” well (liquid diet joke). Bruce is known for a hearty appetite and all is fine according to Sas. Thanks for the updates (old girl)… An early heads up for the annual Save the Boobies, Green Beer Poker Walk event held by Oregon Chapter 45 of the Boozefighters Motorcycle Club on March 15. As you might guess (given the snappy name) this is a fundraiser for the local Breast Cancer Foundation. Here’s how they tout the event: “The Boozefighters present Save the Boobies, Green Beer Poker Walk. Yes, poker WALK—starts at Cattlemen’s Saloon, 108 Depot St, Rogue River. Registration starts at 1:00 p.m., walk begins at 2:00 p.m., last person in at 5:00 p.m. $10 per hand, $15 per couple, includes dinner. BFMC Chapter 45 will be serving corned beef and cabbage. There’s a $2 donation plus $10 for food for non-walking participants.” As for the carrots being dangled for participants this day: $150 high hand/$75 low hand, 50/50 and raffle drawings. High Desert Harley-Davidson (2310 E. Cinema Drive in Meridian, ID) has a handle on how to have a good time and partner with their community. They say of this event, “This one is always popular, so if you don’t want to wait for spring, let’s ride.” The route details aren’t announced, but the website says there will be a free lunch after the ride. Now, I know your parents always told you there was no free ride, but maybe lunch? Questions? Check with the folks at www.highdeserthd.com, e-mail them at info@highdeserthd.com or perhaps phone the dealership at 208.338.5599… A week later, Saturday, March 15, from noon to 4:00 p.m. it’s Saint Patty’s Party at the dealership where High Desert suggests we all “Get your Irish on.” A traditional Irish lunch will be served. See the website for more info.
