mile-marker2017

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. I hope 2017 brings you great happiness and plenty of miles. Winter months can be slow; send in some of your stories or events to share with our regional readers… Milwaukee Harley-Davidson, one of the largest in the state of Wisconsin, has finally announced its sale. After a few legalities, the Windy City Motorcycle Group out of Saint Charles, Illinois, has purchased the dealership from longtime owner Chaz Hasting. The group is owned by Jill and Ozzie Giglio. Group COO Justin Johnson said the group is looking forward to entering the Milwaukee marketplace with the strong Milwaukee Harley-Davidson iconic name and great group of loyal riders… In Lansing, Michigan, House Bill 4651 was signed into legislation by Gov. Rick “The Nerd” Snyder that would impose higher fines on motorcycle riders who do not have the proper endorsement on their license. The bill increases the fine from $100 to $500 for unendorsed riders who don’t think it is important to get the proper training to stay safer on the roads… Members of the Ohio Patriot Guard District #7 were on hand to escort “Lil General,” a 12-week-old Papillon puppy, to VFW Post #8673 in Springfield, Ohio, to present the pup to Cpl. Larry Benett, a 1973–1978 Vietnam War Veteran. “Lil General” will be Larry’s new therapy pal and lifelong friend as he struggles thru living with PTSD. If you are interested in finding a therapy dog for a veteran, contact Dan Hoffman, a veteran in South Carolina who breeds and trains Papillons as PTSD therapy dogs… The 36th annual Central Illinois ABATE of Knoxville County Polar Bear Toy Run departed Nees Harley-Davidson in Galesburg for their annual 80-mile ride around the county to gather toys and money for Safe Harbor Family Crisis Center in Galesburg and Jamieson Community Center in Monmouth. Over $1,000 and bags and bags of toys were collected along the way before returning to the dealership for a victory celebration… When Dillon Andrew Nichols (23) of Waterloo, Iowa, was pulled over for an expired license plate on his motorcycle, the cop told him to shut off his engine and he just turned around and smiled at the officer and took off. The police didn’t chase him because they already knew who he was. A few minutes later the police got a call about a motorcycle on fire a few miles away. Yup, Dillon crashed his scoot and it burst into flames. They found him a few blocks away a little dinged up, and arrested him for fleeing and eluding as well as interference while armed with a firearm. They found his 9mm Kel-Tec still in his pants… Visitors, partiers and criminals in Bexley, Ohio, beware; the police department will be patrolling the city streets and alleyways on their new Zero electric motorcycle. Built in Scotts Valley, California, the $17,052 machine will, according to Chief Larry Rinehart, allow them to roll up on individuals who, God forbid, may be prowling or drinking in the park. In order to ride this machine officers must have complete a department-approved training program and have logged at least 1,000 miles on their personal motorcycles… That’s it for this month; it’s all about you, the Midwest biker. Ride fast, but ride safe.
