Just another beautiful month of riding in Central Florida—so many things to do and only one of me. On May 7, many of the local Orlando lady riders saddled up and headed to EagleRider down on Jet Port Drive for a Ladies Ride Day. Once there EagleRider rolled out the welcome mat with a nice complimentary buffet for the gals before they departed for an escorted ride through Osceola County before rolling into Cowgirls Rock Bar for the festivities and a nice lunch buffet as well… That same day in Jacksonville, the American Legion Riders Chapter 9 hosted their 4th annual Boots on the Ground Run. Proceeds are donated to the Vietnam Memorial Fund for the construction of an education center in D.C. This center will honor and memorialize fallen Vietnam War heroes. Riders paid $20 to join in at the Flamingo Lake RV Resort. A little twist to the normal poker run allowed you to choose from four different stops to pull your poker hands out of a total of 20 possible locations with the fifth and final card being drawn back at the RV Resort for the after-ride party. There was food, prizes and entertainment provided by local bands Don’t Call Me Shirley, Ghost Rider, and Blistur. The perfect end to the day’s event was a fly-over by the Dreamland Squadron… On Mother’s Day, Space Coast Harley targeted the moms with a special promotional sale, “Get Mom what she wants this year!” It was a clever idea and they had the showroom stocked with nice shiny new bikes with a guarantee of price and payment in 15 minutes. Unfortunately, neither of my kids jumped on the idea so no new bike to unwrap on Mom’s Day. (I guess they figured I don’t need three in the garage, but what do they know?)… On May 14, Fire & Iron Osceola County and COBB Chapter 1 partnered up to help a young lady named Heather Hill with a Benefit Run. Heather has been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. The run was very successful and started at the American Legion in Kissimmee then worked its way through the popular watering holes in the area before ending at the COBB clubhouse on Kelley Ave in Kissimmee for a serious dose of COBB fun and fellowship. COBB is so proud of their clubhouse and rightfully so. It’s a great place to stop in after a run or just if you’re out riding and want to take a break and hang out for bit. This was certainly a busy weekend for the COBBers cause the very next day they held their annual Do You See Me Now run to raise motorcycle awareness. The riders started at the clubhouse and then headed down Interstate 4 in a pack while wearing their bright orange shirts and following a truck hauling a bike that had been down. It certainly made an impactful statement! After returning to the clubhouse, there were raffle prizes, a live band and a hefty 50/50 drawing. It was really a good day for a cause that is very close to many of us. The day before on the 14th the Lake County Chapter of ABATE of Florida Inc. hosted a similar ride called Can You See Me Now. Registration was at the Rainbow Restaurant in Mascotte with the riders making several stops along their path to Leesburg where the ride ended at the Shamrock Bar.
