The second iteration of the Coast-to-Coast Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run took place September 7-23, 2012, as riders took off from the Motorcyclepedia Museum in Newburgh, New York, and made their way west to the City by the Bay, San Francisco, California.

A group of 69 hardcore vintage motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the globe set off on pre-1930 scoots in what would become the ultimate test of man and machine through the heartland of America. Felicia Morgan, THUNDER PRESS‘ Northern California bureau chief, was part of the Motorcycle Cannonball crew that helped the intrepid riders scale the States westward, and was along for the entire 3,956-mile trek. Along with the assistance the Cannonball crew offered up to run participants, Felicia was also able to capture thousands of images of these die-hard men, their vintage machines and the beauty of navigating rural back roads and witnessing firsthand the generosity of small-town Americana. The more than 100 crew members and 69 riders formed bonds and displayed camaraderie and teamwork throughout the cross-country journey. At the end of the Run, Dan Emerson, rider #75 out of Connecticut, was asked what the worst part of the ride was, to which he simply replied, “Today, because I just ran out of road.”

We’ve compiled two separate galleries from the 2012 Motorcycle Cannonball Run: a complete list of race participants (both man and machine), as well as a miscellaneous gallery that includes a little bit of everything that was experienced on the 2012 Motorcycle Cannonball.
