As much fun as it is to be in Daytona Beach for Daytona Bike Week, the city becomes a pain in the ass to get around during the event. Sometimes the best way to enjoy riding in Daytona is to head out of town.

So we jumped at the chance to join Alpinestars for a ride to Cocoa Beach, Florida, to sample the company’s new Tech Air 3 airbag vest. We were happy to wear it and glad we didn’t need to actually sample its effectiveness in a crash.

The vest, whether canvas or leather, is unobtrusive to wear, and it provides an extra measure of safety in the event of a collision or crash. It activates electronically via an array of self‑contained sensors and gyroscopes rather than a simple tether that threatens to ignite when dismounting. Look for a review of the Tech Air 3 soon.

I’ve been to Daytona Beach many times over the years, attracted to all sorts of fun sights and activities within the city limits. However, I’ve rarely saddled up for a ride out of town for the pure joy of riding motorcycles on the open road. So I was happy to hop aboard a 2024 Harley‑Davidson Street Glide for additional seat time beyond the abbreviated ride at its official launch in Las Vegas.
